How to Use the 2026 Electricity Cost Calculator
Add a row for every appliance, circuit, or seasonal device you want in the estimate, giving each one its wattage, the hours it runs per day, and — separately — the number of days it actually runs. Use "+ Add Item" for anything not already listed and the × button to drop a row, then set your own rate per kWh at the bottom. Every row's energy, the running total, and the total cost recalculate as you type.
Most electricity cost tools assume one household runs on one billing cycle, and for a single bill that's fine. Planning ahead for a full year of usage is a different problem, because not everything in a home runs on the same schedule.
Why Every Row Gets Its Own Day Count
A refrigerator runs 365 days a year without exception. A window air conditioner in a temperate climate might run 90 days. A space heater might see 60 cold nights. Add all three to the site's Electricity Bill Calculator and it forces one shared billing period across every row — accurate for one month's bill, useless for stacking a fridge's year-round draw against an AC unit's three-month season in a single total. This calculator drops that constraint: each row carries its own day count, so a 150 W fridge running 24 hours a day for 365 days sits in the same list as a 900 W portable AC running 1 hour a day for 90 days, and both roll into one combined figure.
Row Energy (kWh) = (Watts ÷ 1,000) × Hours per Day × Days
Total Energy (kWh) = sum of every row's energy
Total Cost = Total Energy (kWh) × Rate per kWh
Run the numbers on that fridge-and-AC pair: 150 W × 24 h × 365 days ÷ 1,000 comes out to 1,314 kWh for the fridge alone, while the AC's 900 W × 1 h × 90 days ÷ 1,000 adds a comparatively modest 81 kWh. The device most people would guess costs more barely moves the total next to the one that never turns off.
No Default Rate, on Purpose
There's no prefilled rate per kWh here — type in your own. A rate that looks reasonable in one country is off by a wide margin in another, and a placeholder number invites people to skip past it and trust a figure that was never meant to represent their actual utility. Leave the field blank and the calculator will ask for a rate before it reports a cost; fill in whatever your bill or provider actually charges and the total becomes a real projection instead of a guess dressed up as one.
