How to Use the Amps to Volt-Amps (VA) Calculator

Enter current and voltage, pick the phase, and the apparent power in VA appears immediately — the same two inputs as the kVA version, just without the ÷1000 at the end.

Single-phase: VA = V × I
Three-phase:  VA = √3 × V × I

5A at 120V single-phase — a fairly typical small-appliance draw — comes to exactly 600 VA. Run the identical current through a 208V three-phase feed and it climbs to roughly 1,800 VA, three times over, because three conductors are now sharing that same 5A figure rather than one.

VA earns its keep at exactly this scale: laptop chargers, routers, small UPS units, individual power strips. Once totals climb into the thousands — a whole panel, a building generator — the kVA version of this same calculator keeps the digits from running long. Neither unit involves power factor; that only enters the picture once real power (watts or kW) gets compared against apparent power, which is a separate calculation from what this page does.
