A car loan is rarely just "price ÷ months." Sales tax gets added to the price in most places, a down payment and trade-in both reduce what actually gets financed, and only what's left after all of that runs through the standard loan-payment formula.
Loan Amount = Price + Tax − Down Payment − Trade-In
M = P × [r(1+r)ⁿ] ÷ [(1+r)ⁿ − 1]This calculator works the deal in that order — tax added first, then reductions subtracted — before computing the monthly payment on whatever principal remains. Sales tax rates vary enormously by country and even by state or province, so there's no default baked in; enter whatever rate actually applies to your purchase, or leave it at zero where vehicle sales aren't taxed that way.
Trade-in value here is treated as a straight reduction to the amount financed, which is how most dealers structure it, though the tax treatment of trade-ins specifically does vary by jurisdiction — some tax the full price, others only the price minus the trade-in.
