Free brick calculator: find how many bricks a wall needs, plus total material cost.

6.75 bricks per sq ft is the standard coverage for modular brick (single wythe, running bond, 3/8 in. joints). Using a different brick size — Queen, King, or Utility — change the bricks-per-sq-ft field to match its published coverage.

Enter the wall's length and height to calculate how many bricks it takes, and the total cost.

Brick coverage, like block coverage, comes straight out of the unit's own face dimensions rather than being an arbitrary rule.

How to Use the Brick Calculator

Enter the wall's length and height, subtract any openings, and adjust the bricks-per-sq-ft figure if you're not using standard modular brick. Waste and price per brick are both editable.

A modular brick's exposed face, once its 3/8 in. mortar joints are accounted for, measures 8 in. by 2⅔ in. — 21.33 sq in., or about 0.148 sq ft. Invert that and one sq ft of wall takes 6.75 bricks:

bricks per sq ft = 1 ÷ (8 in × 2⅔ in ÷ 144) = 6.75

That figure only holds for modular brick specifically. Queen size runs closer to 6.15 per sq ft, and Utility brick — taller, so fewer courses per foot of wall — drops to around 4.5. Swap the number in if you're working with a different brick, since the wall math downstream depends on it being right.
