How to Use the Concrete Driveway Calculator

Length and width are entered in feet, thickness in inches — enter a price per cubic yard too, and the total material cost sits right below the volume, not off in a separate step.

The math itself is identical to any concrete slab — length times width times depth, with depth converted out of inches:

cubic feet = length (ft) × width (ft) × (thickness (in) ÷ 12) × (1 + waste %)

What's different about a driveway isn't the formula, it's the thickness. A residential slab-on-grade floor might run 3.5–4 in.; a driveway that has to carry a loaded truck, not just foot traffic, is more often poured at 5–6 in., sometimes thicker at the apron where a vehicle's full weight lands as it turns in. Check your local code before settling on a number — frost depth and soil type push it around by region too.

Bag counts are included for reference, but be realistic about scale: a two-car driveway easily runs 4–6 cu yd, which is a ready-mix truck order, not a pallet of 80 lb bags. The bag math only makes sense for a short apron or a repair patch.
