Charge is one of the few electrical quantities with a fixed, unchanging definition behind every prefix on this page — a coulomb is a coulomb regardless of what circuit or textbook it shows up in, so converting between its multiples is pure arithmetic rather than anything experimentally derived.

A car battery moving 5 amps for an hour pushes about 18,000 coulombs of charge through the circuit — convert that into millicoulombs and it's an 8-digit number, precisely the kind of unwieldy figure the prefix system exists to avoid. Go the other direction and a nanocoulomb-scale charge, the kind that briefly builds up on a small circuit trace, would need eight zeros after the decimal point if forced into plain coulombs.
Coulomb's law, capacitor charge equations (Q = CV), and battery capacity specs all eventually reduce to a number in coulombs somewhere in the background math, even when the units on a datasheet say amp-hours or millicoulombs instead. Converting cleanly between scales matters more than it looks like it should — a single misplaced decimal point turns a millicoulomb into a microcoulomb, three orders of magnitude off, silently.
