How to Use the Electrical Conductance Conversion Calculator

Pick the unit your value is currently in, pick the unit you want it converted to, and type the number — siemens, millisiemens, microsiemens, and kilosiemens are all available in both dropdowns, and the answer updates as you type.

Ohm's Law gets taught almost exclusively in terms of resistance, but siemens — the SI unit for conductance, named after Werner von Siemens — exists because some calculations, particularly ones involving components wired in parallel, are genuinely easier to work with as conductances than as resistances.

Conductance (S) = 1 ÷ Resistance (Ω)
base value = entered value × from-unit factor
result = base value ÷ to-unit factor

Here's the case where conductance earns its keep: resistors in parallel add reciprocally (1/R_total = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + ...), which gets tedious fast. Convert each resistor to conductance first, though, and parallel combination becomes plain addition — G_total = G1 + G2 + G3. That single simplification is most of the reason conductance survives as a unit at all, rather than resistance just handling everything on its own.

A 100 mS reading and a 10 Ω resistance describe the exact same component — pick whichever framing makes the surrounding math simpler, and use this page to move between the two scales once conductance is the one you need.
