How to Use the Electricity Bill Calculator
Each row is one appliance: give it a name, its wattage, how many hours a day it runs, and how many identical units you have. Use "+ Add Appliance" for anything not already listed, and the × button to drop a row. Set the billing period in days and the rate per kWh below the list, and every row's cost, the total energy, and the total bill recalculate together.
Multiply each row's watts by its quantity and hours per day to get that appliance's daily energy, then scale up by the number of days in the billing period:
Daily kWh (per row) = (Watts × Quantity ÷ 1,000) × Hours per Day
Total kWh (per row) = Daily kWh × Days
Cost (per row) = Total kWh × Rate per kWh
Add those up across every row and you get the total energy and total bill shown above the breakdown table.
The default appliance list is worth actually looking at, because it makes a point that's easy to miss on a real bill: the things running quietly in the background can outweigh the things you'd assume are the big draw. A 150 W refrigerator running all 24 hours a day uses 3.6 kWh daily. A 1,500 W air conditioner — ten times the wattage — run for just 6 hours a day uses 9 kWh, clearly more, but not by the ten-to-one margin the wattage difference alone would suggest. Stack a fridge, a router, and a TV's standby draw together and "always on" devices routinely account for a bigger slice of a bill than people expect, precisely because duration multiplies against wattage, not the other way around.
