Calculator

Free finance calculator: a time-value-of-money solver for future value, payment, or present value.

Pick the variable you're solving for — future value, payment, or present value — and enter the rest to run the time-value-of-money math.

How to Use the Finance Calculator

Pick which variable you're solving for at the top — Future Value, Payment, or Present Value — and the input fields adjust to match. Fill in the remaining variables (present value, payment, future value goal, annual rate, and years, whichever apply to the mode you picked) and the result updates as you type.

This is the same PV / FV / PMT / N / I%YR variable set a physical financial calculator — an HP-12C, a BA II Plus — has used for decades, just picked apart into three separate solve-for modes instead of one calculator that solves for whatever key you press last. That's a different framing from the savings and investment calculators elsewhere on this site, which walk you toward a specific goal ("how much will my savings grow to"). This tool assumes you already know which variable is missing and just want the algebra done.

Growth Factor = (1 + r)ⁿ
Annuity Factor = [(1 + r)ⁿ − 1] ÷ r
FV = PV × Growth Factor + PMT × Annuity Factor
PMT = (FV − PV × Growth Factor) ÷ Annuity Factor
PV = (FV − PMT × Annuity Factor) ÷ Growth Factor

r is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n the number of months (years × 12) — compounding monthly throughout, the same convention used across the site's other loan and savings tools.
