How to Use the Kilovolt-Amps (kVA) to Amps Calculator

Single-phase: I = (kVA × 1000) ÷ V
Three-phase:  I = (kVA × 1000) ÷ (√3 × V)

A 10 kVA transformer feeding a 230V single-phase load has to be able to carry about 43.5A. Reconnect that same 10 kVA rating to a 400V three-phase supply — a standard European industrial voltage — and per-conductor current drops to roughly 14.4A, less than a third, because three conductors are now sharing the job.

Either way, the current this returns is apparent current, not a final wire or breaker size — real installations still add a code-mandated safety margin (commonly 125% of continuous load) before picking hardware.

Get the voltage wrong and everything downstream is wrong by the same ratio — a 10 kVA load pulls very different current at 120V than at 230V or 400V, so it's worth confirming the actual supply voltage rather than assuming a default.
