How to Use the Kilowatts to Volt-Amps Calculator

VA = (kW × 1000) ÷ PF

This is the same real-to-apparent relationship running through every calculator in this group, just landing in the smallest apparent-power unit instead of the kilo-scaled one — useful when what you're checking a kW figure against is a device-level VA nameplate rather than a facility-scale kVA rating.

A 2 kW motor running at a 0.75 power factor draws 2,666.7 VA of apparent power — not 2,000. That gap, about two-thirds of a kilowatt's worth, is reactive current the supply still has to carry even though it never shows up as useful output. Push the power factor up toward 1.0 (rare for anything with a winding in it) and the two figures converge; drop it toward 0.5 and VA can run double the kW number.

Worth a second look if the result seems off: it's easy to instinctively multiply by PF here, since that's the direction Amps to kW and similar calculators go. This conversion runs the other way — dividing, because apparent power is never smaller than real power for the same load.
