What's actually worth knowing is when to reach for one unit over the other, since both describe the exact same quantity — apparent power — at different scales. kVA is the unit you'll see on generators, transformers, UPS systems, and panel or facility-level load calculations, where the numbers run from single digits into the hundreds or thousands. VA shows up on individual device nameplates — a small UPS, a laptop charger, a router — where the load rarely clears a few hundred and writing "0.15 kVA" instead of "150 VA" would just be an awkward way to say the same thing.
