How to Use the kVA to Watts Calculator

W = kVA × 1000 × PF
5 kVA at 0.8 power factor is 4,000 W, which is exactly the 4 kW the kVA to kW calculator would give you for the same inputs — this isn't a different calculation wearing a different unit, it's the identical relationship with an extra ×1000 tacked on. No reason to pretend otherwise.
The reason both versions exist is scale, not physics. Facility- and generator-level real power gets talked about in kW because the numbers involved — tens, hundreds, sometimes thousands — stay readable that way. Drop down to a single motor, appliance, or electronic device and watts becomes the more natural unit: a 400 W space heater or a 65 W laptop charger reads cleanly, where "0.4 kW" and "0.065 kW" are technically correct but not how anyone actually talks about small loads.
Same power factor logic applies here as everywhere else in this batch: PF sits between 0 and 1, a purely resistive load hits 1.0, and anything with a motor or transformer in it typically runs somewhat lower. Get the power factor wrong and the watt figure is wrong by the same proportion — there's no rounding this one away.
