Why Do You Need Current, Not Just Power?

A kilowatt figure alone doesn't tell you what voltage produced it — 4 kW could be 20 A at 200 V or 10 A at 400 V, and power gives no way to tell those apart. That's the real difference between this tool and a plain unit conversion like kW to kVA: this one needs three inputs, not two, because voltage genuinely depends on both how much current is flowing and how much of the power is real versus reactive.

Single-phase: V = (kW × 1000) ÷ (I × PF)
Three-phase:  V = (kW × 1000) ÷ (√3 × I × PF)

The √3 (≈1.732) in the three-phase version accounts for the phase relationship between the three conductors — the same load in kW draws less current per line at a given voltage than an equivalent single-phase circuit would.

The practical use for this calculator isn't usually "I know my power, give me voltage" in the abstract — it's checking consistency. You've got a nameplate or a clamp-meter reading for current, a known power draw from a spec sheet or utility bill, and you want to know whether that combination lines up with the 230 V or 400 V supply you're expecting. Plug in the numbers; if the calculated voltage is way off from the supply you thought you had, something's wrong with one of your other readings — a misread current clamp, a three-phase circuit assumed single-phase, or a power factor further from 1.0 than you assumed.
