Enter the lawn's length and width to estimate mowing time.
How to Use the Lawn Mowing Calculator
Enter the lawn's length and width, set a mowing rate in square feet per minute, and increase "Passes" above 1 to account for mowing twice or cutting in two directions.
minutes = (length (ft) × width (ft) ÷ mowing rate (ft²/min)) × passes
This is a rough time estimator, not a stopwatch — it assumes a constant rate across the whole lawn, with no allowance for stopping to empty a bag, dodging trees and flower beds, or turning around at the end of each row. Real mowing time runs longer than the raw number here on any lawn with real obstacles in it.
Picking a Realistic Rate
A standard 21 in push mower walked at a normal pace covers somewhere around 80-120 ft² per minute; a wide-deck riding mower or a zero-turn can multiply that several times over. Rather than pick one number for every mower on earth, this calculator leaves the rate open — time a few passes on your own lawn with your own equipment for a rate that actually reflects reality.
