How to Use the Net Worth Calculator

List what you own under Assets and what you owe under Liabilities — six fields each — and the three totals below update as you fill them in, in any order.

Net worth is the plainest measure of financial position there is: everything you own, minus everything you owe, at a single point in time.

Total Assets = Cash & Savings + Investments + Retirement Accounts + Real Estate + Vehicles + Other Assets
Total Liabilities = Mortgage + Auto Loans + Student Loans + Credit Card Debt + Other Liabilities
Net Worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities

Real estate and vehicles belong here at current market value, not purchase price — what you'd realistically get selling them today, not what they cost when new. Retirement accounts count at their present balance even though withdrawing early would trigger taxes and penalties that reduce the amount you'd actually keep; most net worth tracking convention leaves that friction out and reports the gross balance.

A negative result isn't an error state here, just a number — plenty of people, especially early in a career or shortly after buying a first home, carry more debt than assets for a while. What matters more than any single snapshot is the trend from one calculation to the next.
