How to Use the Overtime Calculator
Enter the regular hourly rate, how many regular hours were worked (capped at 40, since that's the standard overtime threshold), how many overtime hours on top of that, and the overtime multiplier — 1.5 by default, editable to 2.0 or any other figure your employer or jurisdiction applies.

Total Pay = Regular Pay + Overtime PayThe 1.5× multiplier — "time and a half" — is the most common overtime rate in the U.S. under federal law for hours worked past 40 in a week, but it isn't universal: some employers pay double time for certain hours, and rules vary by country and by union contract. That's exactly why the multiplier is editable rather than fixed.
Effective Overtime Rate is just the hourly rate times the multiplier, shown on its own since it's the number worth comparing against a different job offer's stated overtime rate — an $18/hour job at 1.5× overtime pays $27/hour for those extra hours, before even factoring in how many overtime hours actually got worked.
Regular Hours is capped at 40 in this tool because hours beyond that point are, by definition, what the Overtime Hours field is for — entering 45 as "regular" and 0 as overtime wouldn't reflect how overtime actually gets paid.
