Enter an amount and PayPal's fee rate to calculate the fee and net proceeds, or work backward from a target net amount to the amount you need to charge.
How to Use the PayPal Fee Calculator
Pick the mode that matches your situation. "I'm Charging This Amount" starts from what you plan to charge and works out the fee and what lands in your account; "I Want This Net Amount" starts from what you need to receive and works out what to charge to get there after fees.
The fee percentage and fixed fee default to PayPal's commonly cited goods-and-services rate — 3.49% plus a fixed fee — but both fields are editable, since actual rates vary by account type, currency, and country. Check your own PayPal fee schedule and edit the fields to match before trusting the output for real numbers.
Forward: Charging a Known Amount
Fee = amount × fee% ÷ 100 + fixed fee
Net = amount − fee
Straightforward once the fee is worked out — the percentage cut comes off first, then the small fixed fee on top.
Reverse: Solving for the Charge
Wanting a specific net amount is trickier than it looks, because the fee itself is a percentage of the amount you're trying to solve for — you can't just add the fee to the target net, since a bigger charge also means a bigger percentage fee. The gross-up formula accounts for that:
Gross = (target net + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − fee% ÷ 100)
This is the same math freelancers and small sellers use to figure out what invoice amount actually nets them the payment they want, once PayPal takes its cut.
