Calculator

Free rise over run calculator: find the slope from two points or from a direct rise and run.

Slope

Enter two points, or a rise and run directly, to calculate the slope.

How to Use the Rise Over Run Calculator

In Two Points mode, enter two coordinate points. In Rise & Run mode, enter the vertical and horizontal change directly instead.

slope = rise ÷ run = (y2 − y1) ÷ (x2 − x1)

"Rise over run" is the same slope formula taught in every algebra class, just named for what it physically measures — rise is how far up (or down) a line moves, run is how far across. A staircase, a ramp, and a roofline are all rise-over-run problems wearing different names, which is why this same ratio shows up again, converted into degrees or a percentage, on the two calculators next to this one.
