Enter a rise and run to calculate the percent slope, or grade.
How to Use the Rise Over Run to Percent Slope Calculator
Enter a rise and a run. The percent slope comes out below.
percent slope = (rise ÷ run) × 100
Percent slope — also called grade — is the unit road signs and hiking trail markers actually use, not degrees. A 100% grade sounds dramatic but is only a 45° angle (rise equals run); it's easy to mentally overestimate how steep a percentage grade is compared to a degree measurement, which is exactly the mismatch this calculator exists to translate between.
