How to Use the Salary Calculator

Enter an annual salary along with the hours worked per week, days worked per week, and weeks worked per year, and every other figure — hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly — updates from that one annual number all at once.

Weeks per year is the field most people skip past without thinking, and it's worth a second look: 52 assumes you're paid straight through the year, while 50 backs out two unpaid weeks — a rough stand-in for unpaid time off some hourly and contract workers actually take. Neither number is "correct"; it depends on how you're actually paid.

Hourly = Annual ÷ (Hours per Week × Weeks per Year)
Daily = Hourly × Hours per Week ÷ Days per Week
Weekly = Hourly × Hours per Week
Biweekly = Weekly × 2
Monthly = Annual ÷ 12

Daily rate comes out of the hourly figure rather than straight from the annual salary, since a workday isn't a fixed fraction of a year the way a week or month roughly is — this calculator spreads the weekly total evenly across the days-per-week field you set, which won't match reality for anyone whose hours are lopsided across the week (four 10-hour days, say, instead of five 8-hour ones).
