How to Use the Shoe Size Conversion Calculator

Type a number into the size field, then choose which column it belongs to — US Men's, US Women's, UK, EU, or foot length in centimeters — from the dropdown. The other four columns fill in immediately, pulled from the nearest matching row in the conversion table.

Wire gauge conversions elsewhere on this site, like AWG to mm, run on a clean geometric formula — one equation, exact for every size. Shoe sizing has nothing like that, and the reason traces back to how differently each system originated. The Brannock device, still the standard foot-measuring tool in US and UK shoe stores, historically measured length in barleycorns — literally, a unit based on the length of a barleycorn seed — before either country's numbering settled into its modern form. EU sizing took a separate path entirely: the Paris point system, based on two-thirds of a centimeter of foot length, with no historical connection to the barleycorn at all.

Why a Table Instead of a Formula

Because there isn't an equation to derive one system from another — not an oversight, just genuinely how the numbers evolved. This calculator uses a standard published US/UK/EU/cm conversion chart, matching commonly referenced footwear industry sizing tables, and looks up the nearest match rather than computing anything.

That table approach has a real precision limit. Not every EU half-size lines up neatly with a US whole size, so when there's no exact row for what you entered, the calculator finds the closest one and flags it as approximate rather than pretending an exact match exists where none does. It also stops at standard adult sizing — children's sizes follow their own separate numbering in every system covered here, so don't expect a kids' UK 2 to slot cleanly into this adult chart.

A conversion estimate, not a fit guarantee. Brand, shoe style, and last shape all shift actual fit away from a standard chart — running shoes commonly fit larger than dress shoes marked the "same" size. Confirm sizing against a specific brand's own chart when precision matters, especially before buying online.
