How to Use the Stock Profit Calculator

Enter the buy price, sell price, and share count, then add any commissions paid on either side — profit or loss and the return percentage come out the other end.

Total Cost = (Buy Price × Shares) + Buy Commission
Total Proceeds = (Sell Price × Shares) − Sell Commission
Profit = Total Proceeds − Total Cost
Return % = Profit ÷ Total Cost × 100

Commissions matter more than their small size suggests, especially on trades that would otherwise be near break-even. A trade with $0 commission built in looks profitable at a 2% price move; add a few dollars of trading fees on each leg and that same move can turn into a loss once both are subtracted out.

Return percentage here is calculated against total cost, not against the raw purchase price — commission-inclusive, in other words — since that's the actual amount of capital that was put at risk to make the trade happen.

This is a realized-trade calculator: it assumes shares were bought and then sold, not a running mark-to-market on a position still being held.
