How to Use the Unit Circle Calculator
Enter an angle in degrees. The calculator plots it on the unit circle as (cos θ, sin θ) coordinates, along with tan θ and which quadrant it falls in.
x = cos(θ)
y = sin(θ)
tan(θ) = y ÷ x
The unit circle is just a circle of radius 1 centered at the origin, and every point on it is, by definition, (cos θ, sin θ) for the angle θ measured from the positive x-axis. That's not a coincidence dressed up as a definition — it's the actual reason sine and cosine are defined the way they are, extending the right-triangle version of sine and cosine (opposite over hypotenuse, adjacent over hypotenuse) to angles beyond 90° where a right triangle no longer makes sense on its own.
