How to Use the VA to Amps Calculator

This is the appliance-scale version of the same relationship the kVA to Amps calculator handles at the facility level. Individual devices — a laptop charger, a space heater, a router — almost always list their rating in VA on the nameplate rather than kVA, since the numbers involved rarely climb past a few thousand. Panels, generators, and UPS systems are where kVA takes over, simply because the totals get large enough that the kilo-prefix keeps the digits readable.
Single-phase: I = VA ÷ V
Three-phase: I = VA ÷ (√3 × V)
5,000 VA at 230 V single-phase draws about 21.7 A. Run the same 5,000 VA through a three-phase 230 V supply and each line only carries about 12.6 A — the load is split three ways instead of riding on one pair of conductors, which is exactly why three-phase distribution shows up once total loads get big enough that a single-phase circuit would need unreasonably thick cable.
Nameplate VA already accounts for power factor, unlike a wattage rating — so you don't need a separate PF value here the way the kW-based calculators in this family do. That's also why the current this calculator returns is the true current the wiring has to carry, not an idealized "if everything were resistive" number.
