How to Use the VA to Watts Calculator
Both fields here usually come straight off the same nameplate — apparent power and power factor listed side by side — so there's rarely a need to look anywhere else for the numbers; type them in and the wattage figure updates live.
This is the same real-versus-apparent relationship running through this whole family, at the scale you'll actually see printed on a device: VA, volts, and amps all sit together on nameplates, but the wattage number, if it's listed at all, is usually smaller.

Why Is the VA Rating Always a Little Higher?
Because VA measures the raw combination of voltage and current a device draws, while watts measures only the portion of that doing actual work — and power factor, always 1.0 or less, is what shrinks one into the other. A laptop charger rated 65 VA at a power factor of 0.9 draws about 58.5 W; the gap is small but real.
That gap is exactly why sizing a UPS or a power strip off the wattage number is the wrong move. The UPS has to supply the full apparent load, VA and all, not just the useful watts — undersize it against wattage alone and it'll trip or shut down well before you hit what looks like its rated capacity. Size against VA and you're covered with margin to spare.
