Choose to add VAT to a net price or remove VAT from a gross price, enter the VAT rate, and calculate the result.
How to Use the VAT Calculator
Switch between Add VAT and Remove VAT at the top — the field underneath changes to match, since adding starts from a net price and removing starts from a gross one.
VAT works the same everywhere it's used, even though the rate itself varies by country and by product category within a country. This calculator handles both directions of the math: adding VAT to a net price, or extracting it from a price that already includes it.
Adding VAT: Gross = Net × (1 + Rate)
Removing VAT: Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate)
The two operations aren't mirror images of simple subtraction — dividing by (1 + rate) to remove VAT is not the same as subtracting rate% from the gross price, a mistake that understates the net price every time. There's no default rate here since VAT/GST rates range from single digits to well over 20% depending on the country and the goods involved; enter the rate that actually applies to your transaction.
