How to Use the Volt-Amps to Amps Calculator

Set the phase toggle to match the supply first, since it changes the divisor, then enter apparent power in VA and the supply voltage. Current updates immediately as either number changes.

Single-phase: I = VA ÷ V
Three-phase:  I = VA ÷ (√3 × V)

A 1,500 VA space heater on a 120 V single-phase circuit draws 12.5 A — enough on its own to be worth checking against a 15 A breaker before adding anything else to that circuit. Put the same 1,500 VA load on a 400 V three-phase supply instead and each line carries only about 2.17 A, since three conductors are splitting a load one would otherwise carry alone.

Nothing here needs a power factor. VA is apparent power by definition — voltage times current, full stop — so back-solving for current from VA and voltage is just algebra, not a second physics relationship layered on top. That's a genuine difference from the kW-based sizing calculators in this family, where power factor changes the answer by a meaningful margin.
