Free x and y intercept calculator: find intercepts from slope-intercept or standard form.

X-Intercept
Y-Intercept

Enter a line in slope-intercept or standard form to calculate its x-intercept and y-intercept.

How to Use the X and Y Intercept Calculator

Choose Slope-Intercept Form (y = mx + b) or Standard Form (Ax + By = C), enter the coefficients, and both intercepts come out below.

Slope-Intercept: x-intercept = −b ÷ m, y-intercept = b
Standard Form: x-intercept = C ÷ A, y-intercept = C ÷ B

An intercept is just the point where a line crosses an axis — which means the other coordinate is zero there by definition. Setting y to zero and solving for x gives the x-intercept; setting x to zero and solving for y gives the y-intercept. Standard form makes both of those substitutions especially clean, which is part of why it's the form textbooks reach for when intercepts are the whole point of the question.
